Ying Ying Yong is a Malaysian-Chinese designer living and working in San Francisco.

In pursuit of her dream, Ying Ying quit her beloved, decade-long job in 2021 to embark on her consulting practice and pursue other collaborations that bring meaningful relationships, joy, and beauty to life.

Previously an Associate and Design Lead of the Custom Homes and Hospitality studio at BAR Architects, Ying Ying inspires her team to push the boundaries of design, method, and process while cultivating their strengths and potential. She is most interested in collaborative efforts to create thoughtful, timeless spaces and delightful experiences. Before BAR, Ying Ying designed affordable housing in Oakland and Southeast Asia at Pyatok Architects. While a student, she interned with Max Jacobson and Helen Degenhardt at JSWD Architects in Berkeley, working on several San Francisco Zen Center projects. Max and Helen have become Ying Ying’s life-long mentors and good friends.

With over sixteen years of experience in architecture and design, Ying Ying’s work includes international projects of private homes, resorts, and museums in China, Malaysia, Mexico, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and Italy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and spent a summer studying Japanese landscape architecture abroad in Kyoto, Japan.

Ying Ying loves cooking, drinking teas, and international travel to explore beautiful cities with her partner.
